The pick of the Irish Grand National prices….

The abandonment of this afternoon’s Musselburgh meeting is very disappointing….

… I hate to put a lot of work into a card only to be scuppered by a waterlogged track….

…. but there’s nothing I can do about it….

…. except to move on to Monday’s Irish Grand National at Fairyhouse (5.00)….

…. where I’m backing WE’LLHAVEWAN at the general 14s….

Nick Rockett is obviously the number one horse in the race for Willie Mullins….

…. but I wouldn’t be discounting the horse that gets in at the bottom of the weights….

Paul Townend hasn’t ridden in very many handicaps this term – just 13 since the start of September….

…. but he did boil down to 10-00 stone to take the ride on We’llhavewan in last month’s Grand National Trial Handicap Chase at Punchestown….

…. a strong suggestion that the horse was expected to go very close….

…. In a race for which he was sent off a 5/4 favourite….

And he did go close – at least on one metric….

…. he was beaten home by just one of his 14 opponents – Where It All Began….

…. but he was well beaten – to the tune of 16-lengths….

Nevertheless, I still fancy a big run from the 9yo tomorrow….

…. from a chase mark of 123….

…. some 13lb lower than his hurdling mark….

I think he’ll strip fitter for the Punchestown race….

…. he’d been off prior to that assignment for 10-weeks….

He’d had a long break from the chase game….

…. but his jumping was much improved that last time….

…. he’s progressive….

…. and – in this race – with a low weight on desperate ground….

…. with claimer Kieran Callaghan taking off 5lbs

…. he’s primed to run a big one….

The pick of the prices….

To recap on my bets for tomorrow….

In the 5.00 @ Fairyhouse….

  • Pick of the prices – WE’LLHAVEWAN (14s generally)

e/w terms = It’s 1/5 (5) and 1/4 (4) generally….

Advised prices are correct at the point of publication – but prices are subject to fluctuation. Consult Oddschecker – you may find better quotes and terms than advised….

  • Finally….

That’s all for today….

I’ll be back next time….

Meantime – Contact me direct at nick.pullen@oxonpress.co.uk

And remember – win, lose or draw – enjoy the racing….

Stay tuned….
