Get this afternoon’s pick here….
In ATC today….
…. I bring you my best picks on Day 2 at Chester….
I’m on RUBY’S PROFIT in the 1.30 - up at 13/2….
…. and I’m on STRENGTH OF SPIRIT at 8s & 15/2 in the 3.40….
That’s the summary….
…. you’ll find all my reasoning below – as per usual….
Oh…. and if you’re looking for the standout place terms on offer – you’ll find them in the Bet Box below….
Read on….
-----
…. the CAA Stellar – Chester – 1.30....
RUBY’S PROFIT has dropped on being drawn in stall 2 and is worth backing at the 13/2….
She ran a cracker at this meeting last year over this trip….
…. going down just a length to Redorange whose now a stone higher in the rankings….
She won at Goodwood next time out – earning a 6lb rise to 93….
…. and then produced another good performance in a more valuable race at Epsom off that revised mark – prompting her trainer to highlight her as potential Listed class….
…. and she wasn’t disgraced at Royal Ascot or at Goodwood (again) the time after – off 93 and 92….
Perhaps the trainer got a little carried away with his Listed-class assessment – time will tell….
…. she certainly got well beaten at that level on debut this term – beating not a single runner home at Bath in early April….
Back at the same venue over the weekend – this time at handicap level and with a first-time hood added to the habitual tongue-tie – she looked much more like it….
…. running on well at the end but probably scuppered by dwelling a little at the start….
She’s turned around quickly, she’s found some form, and on a mark of 87 she’s entitled to be in the mix….
-----
…. the Xenon Workplace – Chester – 3.40....
Karl Burke’s STRENGTH OF SPIRIT is the pick for me at the general 8s & 15/2….
He was put up 4lb to 85 for his win at Musselburgh on seasonal debut….
…. and he showed he can do business off that revised mark next time out at Haydock late last month….
He could only finish third that day – but he pulled clear of those finishing behind him….
…. and it should be noted that he made his run from further back in the field than a winner who made all and a second who raced prominently….
With two races under his belt, he should strip fitter than quite a few of tomorrow’s opponents returning off breaks….
…. and we know he’ll handle the track given that he won a seller at the venue last summer – after which connections were sufficiently encouraged to buy him in for 42,000 guineas….
Sam James rode him that day and the pair ran out of stall 7 – just as they do tomorrow….
…. I reckon he’s primed to run a big one….
