Good omens onside at York on Day 2….

…. I bring you my best picks in the handicaps on ITV on Thursday….

I’m on REDORANGE in the 2.20 at York – up at 11s, 10s, & 9s….

…. and I’m on MIRSKY at 12s in the 2.55 at York….

That’s the summary….

…. the Lindum – York – 2.20....

This is ultra-competitive – as you’d expect with a 22-runner handicap over a straight 5f trip….

…. I could make a case for at least a dozen….

…. but the one I’ve opted for is REDORANGE at the 11s, 10s, & 9s for Clive Cox….

He had a cracking 3yo season last term – showing up really well in multiple quality handicaps without managing to land the big pot….

He had the draw against him twice at Ascot….

…. he went close at Goodwood off the same mark he runs from tomorrow….

…. and then he was second in a Listed race at Deauville….

He’s already pretty seasoned in these big handicaps and sooner or later he’s going to strike….

He’ll have to do it at the first time of asking tomorrow – but he’ll have Ryan Moore to assist….

Moore has never ridden this horse before – at least not on the racetrack….

…. and Moore and Cox don’t combine frequently….

But when they do the sparks tend to fly – the pair are 7/17 in combination since the start of 2021….

…. and when it comes to York the pair are 3/3 – with Moore winning big sprint handicaps for Cox on James’s Delight, Harry Three, and Dragon Leader….

As omens go, I think that one has to be considered pretty good….

…. the Hambleton – York – 2.55....

I’m sticking with MIRSKY for this one and backing him at the general 12s to post back-to-back wins – just as he did when he hit form last year….

David O’Meara’s 7yo has done nothing wrong this term….

…. running a nice comeback at Musselburgh….

…. before landing the money (with this column on) at Thirsk earlier this month with a career-best performance….

He’s gone up 3lb for that win to 96 – but he still looks feasibly handicapped to me….

…. on that last run….

…. and on his second in the Clipper over tomorrow’s course and distance back in 2024 – when he was beaten just a head off a mark of 94….

He’s in the form of his life right now – which always helps….

…. and running from stall 2 tomorrow he’s going to be perfectly positioned to race prominently behind the likely front-runner, Point Lynas – before sticking on at the end….

At a track where it can be difficult to make up ground, tomorrow’s set-up represents another good opportunity for a horse that likes to make hay in the early part of the season….
