The pick of the prices in the Old Rowley Cup….

In ATC today….

…. I bring you my best pick in Friday’s Old Rowley Cup at Newmarket….

I’m on HIGH STORM in the 3.30 – up at 20s….

That’s the summary….

…. you’ll find all my reasoning below – as per usual….

I can see the case for several of the horses at the top of the betting for Friday’s Old Rowley Cup at Newmarket (3.30)….

…. but the one I like in the race at the prices is Karl Burke’s HIGH STORM at the 20s….

Early last month – on his first go for 99 days – he stepped up to 12f for the first time at Thirsk and won a C4 handicap in decent style….

…. looking better for every yard – as you might expect from progeny of Nathaniel….

…. and looking very much like there’s more to come down the line from a revised handicap mark of just 86….

This much better race at Newmarket presents a different level of test altogether – that’s for sure….

…. but – as it stands – this horse is in the sale at Newmarket on October 27th….

…. and I’m interested that Karl Burke runs this horse at all tomorrow – showing more of the 3yo’s hand than perhaps he needs to….

Perhaps he hopes to get a few quid…. perhaps he sees the race as a shop window for his charge…. one in which his value might be enhanced….

Whatever, I can’t see how getting smashed tomorrow would help with the upcoming auction price….

…. and I’m taking the view that Burke is going down the road because he expects his horse to perform – at a very generous price….
