>>>>> TODAY'S selection here....
In ATC today….
…. I bring you my best picks on Saturday afternoon….
I’m on COCK AND BULL in the 3.40 at Newmarket….
…. and I’m backing ANNAF in the 3.17 at York….
That’s the summary….
…. you’ll find all my reasoning below – as per usual….
Oh…. and if you’re looking for the standout place terms on offer – you’ll find them in the Bet Box below….
Read on….
-----
I’m already on COCK AND BULL at 16s for the Cesarewitch at Newmarket (3.40) – as reported earlier in the week….
…. and now – on the eve of the race – we know a bit more about where we are….
The cheekpieces are on the for the first time – an addition to the tongue tie that was used for the first time when winning at Galway in July….
…. James Doyle is confirmed in the saddle – Doyle and trainer Emmet Mullins won this race together as recently as 2023 with The Shunter….
…. I’m not going to concern myself with being drawn in stall 23 – 5 of the last 10 winners started in stalls 23, 24, 20, 20 & 19….
…. it is what it is….
If you didn’t jump in early doors with me on Wednesday, you can only get 10s in most places this morning….
…. but William Hill is a big outlier at 14s (I’m adding these words at just after 9am) – and if you’re quick you might still be able to snap that up….
In the Sprint Trophy at York (3.17) I want to be with ANNAF at the 16s….
I noted Mick Appleby’s 7yo last month after he ran a cracker in the Portland at Doncaster….
I made the point that it was only last year that he was rated 106 and won a G3 – he runs off 96 tomorrow….
…. and I highlighted that this is very much his time of the season – he’s done some of his best career work on the track in the months of September and October….
I also think he’s ready to strike – which might seem odd given that he finished 10/18 and beaten 4l in a handicap at Ascot last weekend….
But you can draw a line through that…. or mark it up…. depending on how you choose to see it….
Jason Watson never wanted to be on the far side in stall two – and he clearly wanted to get across to the stands side right from the get-go….
…. but the horse initially veered right from the stalls….
…. and then the switch across the track was delayed because horses to his left – travelling at a crawl – blocked the path across….
The pair lost loads of ground there – and they were right out the back when Watson did finally get where he wanted to go on the other side of the track….
With that kind of start – it was a rotten first quarter mile – it was always going to be a big ask to be bang there at the finish….
…. but Annaf did show some very encouraging signs….
…. he put together a couple of scorching back-to-back furlongs in the middle stages of the race….
…. and hit a top speed of 41.22 mph – going quicker than any other horse at any point in the race….
Things clearly didn’t go according to plan last week….
…. but he has the potential to pose a big threat this week – at a handy price….

Now, just to recap….
The pick of the prices….To recap on my bets…. In the 3.40 @ Newmarket….
