In ATC today….

…. I bring you my best handicap pick on Friday at Aintree….

I’m on KING TURGEON in the 3.35 – up at 14s….

That’s the summary….

…. you’ll find all my reasoning below – as per usual….

The problem with the vast proportion of early-season races is twofold….

…. one, there’s no form in the book….

…. and two, unless you’ve got good information coming direct from insiders at individual yards, figuring out which horses are sufficiently match-fit to do themselves justice first-time up boils down to guesswork….

There’s only the one race of interest to me on Friday at Aintree – the BetMGM Handicap Chase (3.35)….

…. and race favourite – Dan Skelton’s Here Comes Georgie – has already demonstrated that he is both fit and on the up-and-up with his win at Cheltenham’s Showcase meeting….

…. and he’s going to be the one to beat with a 7lb raise not likely to be put the lid on him….

At a price, one that could be of interest at this early stage of the season is KING TURGEON at the general 14s….

The early part of the season is the time to catch him – assuming he’s on song….

He won first time up the season before last – going in at Chepstow and then embarking on a run that saw him won the Grand Sefton at tomorrow’s track and another good handicap at Cheltenham….

…. and he went well in the Grand Sefton on seasonal debut last term – showing up for a long way before fading out of it on the run-in….

He’s had his problems – but he’s had another wind-operation in the close season and he’s down to a mark of 132 which is a pound lower than when he won that last race at Cheltenham….

…. so, there’s no doubt that he’s sufficiently well-handicapped to get the job done – if he’s ready to roll….

When they’ve had him ready to roll previously, it’s been during this part of the season – and he can run better than expected tomorrow….
